Members will be aware of the outstanding program led by our own Maggie Duggan to support the excellent work done by the women’s refuge in providing emergency shelter and guidance for women and children who have been caught up in distressing and sometimes violent situations.
There are many instances in which women and children arrive at the refuge basically with only the clothes they are wearing and without the financial means to purchase urgently needed items.
The Club’s response was to make available “Just a Little Help Bag”.
With the generous support of companies including the ANZ Bank, Bonds and Johnson & Johnson, these support parcels ensure that people are helped in an atmosphere of respect and dignity at a very vulnerable time.
Since launching this as a pilot program just before Christmas, the Club has had the reward of a heartfelt note of thanks from one of the recipients. |
