Youth exchange, like so many Rotary programs, build international friendships. Bronte Morgan, accompanied by mum Bev, demonstrated this during a recent return visit to Denmark. While there, they also visited Lise Nielsen. Lise is our very fondly remembered exchange student from Denmark, who was in Perth in 2005, at the same time that Bronte was in Denmark. Bev was Lise’s host mum for several months.
Bev reports on their trip:
We visited Lise before Christmas – a long drive to her parent’s farm. Thank goodness we had a GPS or otherwise I don’t think we would have found the farm. Lise looked great and was very excited to see us. Her parents are both lovely and we had a very nice afternoon tea which Lise had helped to make. Unfortunately because it gets dark early in winter (by 4pm) we couldn’t see much of the farm. Lise hopes to return to Perth this year or next and also wants to study architecture. I also have photos from the Rotary meeting we attended at Bronte’s host club in Randers. I have a photo of her two host parents. The one on the left is Ove Oleson and the one on the right is Kim Vittrup. They put up the Australian flag because we were visiting and they also sang Waltzing Matilda at song time. Ove is the current President of the club and Kim is the immediate Past President. Ove explained to the members that Russell is the current President in our club. The District Governor elect was at the meeting to promote the new structure that Rotary is introducing and that our club is already implementing. I could understand this as he had a flow chart outlining the proposal but other than that I couldn’t tell you much else because the meeting is all spoken in Danish.
