When Juliana Cabral arrived in Perth seven weeks ago, she had been given less than six months to live. An attack of rheumatic fever she suffered at the age of six had left her with a hole in the heart that was progressively worsening.
As we saw at last week’s meeting, Juliana has now flown home as a health, lively and engaging young woman able to look forward to a happy and healthy life thanks to Australian medical carers and supporters in Rotary.
Juliana is another success story of the Rotary Overseas Medical Aid for Children. ROMAC brings children who are suffering from life-threatening or disfiguring conditions that cannot be treated in their home country to Australia for expert treatment. Congratulations to Connie Martin, who is now our District representative for the ROMAC program, and the other Booragoon members who did so much to help Juliana and her sister Francelina during their time in Perth.
