All the hard work has paid off for Emily Scarmuzzi. Members will remember that Emily kept up her Alaskan school work (by correspondence) at the same time as she attended high school in Perth last year.
She has now completed high school back home and has achieved her ambition of going to university in Seattle.
“Hey, everyone! It's summertime for me now, I graduated high school on May 13, I'm so happy I'm finished with high school and can't wait to go to uni!! I will be attending Seattle University in Seattle Washington on Sept. 22. It's a small uni with about 7,000 students. I like it because it has small class sizes and is in a big city with lots to do.
“The weather has been beautiful in Fairbanks, it's been about 23C and the sun is shining until 11pm. I love Fairbanks' summers, because you can stay outside forever and it won't get dark, although it’s hard to sleep sometimes I put a bed sheet over my blinds so i can sleep in the dark.”
“Graduation was fun and very exciting. We wore those silly gowns and caps. The night of graduation our class went to our grad party. We went to a local athletic club and played sports, swam, and even had a hypnotist-comedian there. I got hypnotised and did funny stuff.
“A few days after I started working at my new job. I work at Riverboat Discovery, which is an old sternwheel boat that gives tours down the river. I make reservations for people, and talk to passengers. It's a lot of fun to talk to the tourists.
“We get a lot of Australians so I always chat with them.”
Emily also competed in the junior world ice art championships in Alaska in March, and her team finished third. That’s Emily on the right of the picture.
